We initially used a spreadsheet. But it's inconvenient for data entry, lacks automation, and of course has no bank connections. Then we recorded everything in a paper notebook, but it's hard to share, can't be updated on the go, difficult to edit and calculate, and has no automation. We also tried apps, but they always lacked something important for us.
